A spiritual brother gave me a wisdom nugget a few months ago that went, “we are not a physical being on a spiritual journey through this life, we are a spiritual being passing through this world.” This is such an interesting synopsis to such questions as; how often have you ever wondered who you are? Often feeling like something is missing or lacking in your life, as you try a multitude of fillers only to continue with these questions and feelings. Inadequacy is a real part of physical living as there is so much in which we can’t control. From the richest of people to the poorest in our lands, they all (if honest) have their moments of inadequate feelings. John explains this very well in John 15:5 (ESV), I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
This human flesh which encapsulates our soul is not equipped to perform spiritual thoughts and actions. It has no understanding of such things as its natural form is of the world and its innermost thought are taught by man. It’s not until the spiritual rebirth of our inner self that we receive the Holy Spirit (a gift from God) to help us understand the trinity and the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus. John has good news and bad news for us in John 15:6 (ESV), If anyone does not abide in me, he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned (bad news). John 15:7 (ESV), If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you (good news).
Now here is the rub: Do we act on who we think we are or who Jesus says we are!
My guess would be all too often, far too many of us, struggle through life acting on who we think we are. Most of us have the wrong idea of who we really are, especially in the Christian community. “We each” sorely underestimate or greatly exaggerated personal qualities to the extent it hinders our God given qualities. The lost suffer equally but they can’t recognize the cause as they are not connected to the vine. Only those connected to the vine (God) have the eyes to see, the ears to hear and the heart to understand John 15:10 (ESV), If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.
I would like to share my thoughts of today, the bible tells us in so many words that we have come to the day of conformity. The world population is ready to settle for what the world is offering! Depending on others to direct their lives into a better place, with little to no effort on their part. They are seeking short cuts to a promote and improve their lives, all the while ignoring the vine which promises us all in John 15:11 (ESV), These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. God’s word is filled with who Jesus says you are and how you can tap into His wisdom. Start with spending a few minutes in reading chapter 15 of John, we are seldom who we think we are in our carnal mind. There is literally unlimited wisdom to be gained once we’ve taped into His vine. As well there is a lifetime of confusion, frustration and misery awaiting those that don’t!
I pray this week that we all come to know and believe in our heart of hearts That which is written in John 15:16-17 (ESV), 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. 17 These things I command you, so that you will love one another. Father God, I know we that believe are where we are because you are who you are! Thank you for your grace and mercy upon us all. Amen
HAVE A BLESSED WEEK BY BEING A BLESSING TO OTHERS!
