A HUNGRY GHOST!

Sunday’s Monday

I ran across this term during an internet search, and it intrigued my spirit. I went to the Urban Dictionary where the definition of a hungry ghost is, anyone who seeks validity outside of themselves. It goes on to say, obsessive checking of mobile phones, chat sites or networks are clear signs that one is a hungry ghost. This caused me to think of how people use the internet (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to post selfies and intimate personal stories, continuously seeking attention and approval. They are desperately seeking man’s acceptance for being who they are. This is an issue of low self-esteem that has globally been ignored for eons. It is a mental condition that has affected more people than the worst of pandemics. And while the church addresses this issue with a one size fits all platform, which is no more effective than the medical community’s approach to medicate and negate. John (the Apostle) witnessed this in his time and warns us in John 5:44 (ESV), How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

Upon receiving this revelation, I pushed on to compare a Hungry Ghost with a Holy Ghost Person. So, I returned to the Urban Dictionary to find its description of the Holy Ghost which read, something that is used to awaken an otherwise dead church. To fill one with the spirit of god. Therefore, the cure will not be found outside ourselves, it can come only from the Holy Spirit deep within our internal sanctuary where the Holy Ghost resides, once we surrender our all to Jesus. This is per what is written in John 14:26 (ESV), But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. For us today, God is saying get to know me, receive my love, and together we’ll find a better way of life for you.

When left unchecked, this issue becomes a cycle that will grow into unimaginable depths, as it moves from a pity-seeking maneuver for attention, to a hopeless state of suicidal despair. For some, the hungry ghost that dominates them is so bad that they will sabotage something good for them through the mindset of unworthiness. These are the people that chose to self-medicate in all the wrong ways, treating the symptoms of Who am I, and why am I here? These questions scream inside one’s mind until the unanswered silence is unbearable! As Satan continues from His endless list of spirit killers pressing the thoughts of, I’m not good enough, I’m not worthy, I’m not smart. Sadly, once validation finally becomes nothing more than an unattainable dream, many decide to end it all. Check this out; 5 out of every 10 people you see today are dealing with a mental issue and 10 out of 10 are battling something. My experience has taught me; “our mind can be an awful place to live without the intervention of the Holy Spirit!” Should this sound off-color, check out the latest stats on suicide. A favorite bible scripture that helps me stay in touch with the real me (the God created me) is from Jesus in John 5:30-31 (ESV), 30 “I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me. 31 If I alone bear witness about myself, my testimony is not true.

I love this quote used in the bible think on these things! Read it again, John 5:30-31 (ESV), If I alone bear witness about myself, my testimony is not true. The truth is found in no other place than the heart of God, and therein lies the answers to all issues of self-esteem, life, and death. Self is the cause of low self-esteem and Jesus is the cure, as it is described in 1 John 4:15-16 (ESV), 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. Once we receive this reality into our hearts, we can cease living under the condemnation of the world and rise above it through the justification of Jesus Christ our Lord. Word to the wise, if you going to be hungry, be hungry for God!!

My prayer is for God’s will to be done as we think on and receive the value within John 16:33 (ESV), I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Jesus is the answer to whatever ails us (follower or not)! He has overcome! Amen
