UnderExposed

Sunday’s Monday

UnderExposed

Underexposed is a familiar term associated mostly with bad pictures within the realm of photography. For the non-photographers dictionary.com defines it best, underexpose, is to expose either to insufficient light or to sufficient light for too short a period, as in photography. Yes, I know the word can be applied in many other realms of usage but the first thing that pops in my head when I hear underexposed is picture taking. However, today I am going to use underexposed in to address a severe misconception that seems to be growing rampantly in today’s world.

Quality and Time is the largest killer in this world today! It is robing our cradles, killing far too many youths, and controlling the majority of adults! For any of you who have read my writing before, you know I’m speaking of a clear wholesome relationship with Jesus Christ. We all suffer the temptations of Satan to not read God’s word, to not pray as we know we should, to not talk daily with Jesus, to become self-reliant and we wonder why things feel so wrong. God tells us in the writings of Joshua 1:8 (ESV), This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. We have allowed ourselves to become underexposed to the true light of God by settling for a quick glance at a morning devotional and an attempt at a thoughtless prayer in order to say we did when we really didn’t. We turned to the creator of pure light and yet spend far too little time being exposed to its truth.

It seems our time has become way to valuable to use for something as trivial as our inner peace and hope for better life. We often exalt ourselves to a point of danger in keeping our inner peace intact. As well, we are under the illusion that our life is just where it should be, and all is well with church, work, and home. The bible explains this in 1 John 1:5-6 (ESV), 5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. I feel sure that we all know that yucky feeling we get when we know we’re not being who we are created to be. Again, we have an underexposed life because we think we have everything under control and spend our time on self-reliance rather than infusing ourselves in the perfect light of God.

I have a short life story to help explain; I spent years as an active alcoholic and my belief was, I could drink Vodka, and no one could smell the alcohol. A few months after becoming sober, I discovered the only fool in a crowd of sober people was the one drinking Vodka! Fact is, only another drinker of alcohol can’t smell a drinker of alcohol! That is how deception works, it is based on half-truths, misinformation, and a desire to believe. Spending time with God, reading God’s word and praying to (talking with) God only carries validity for those of like kind. God speaks through his word about getting and staying properly exposed to Him in Revelation 2:2-5 (ESV), 2 “‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 3 I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary. 4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. I remember the title of an old song that applies here, Slip Sliden Away it happens so slowly and effortlessly we don’t notice it’s happening. My prayer this week is actually a call for praise to The God of Light, who will protect us from the darkness of sin. May we all seek to receive and keep our optimum exposure in His perfect light. Psalm 150 (ESV), Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! 2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! 3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! 4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! 5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Amen

HAVE A BLESSED WEEK BY BEING A BLESSING TO OTHERS!
